PNG Power has installed a 150kW rooftop solar PV system at the Mineral Resources Authority (MRA) office in Mining Haus, Konedobu, Port Moresby. This installation was done through PNG Power's two-megawatt rooftop solar PV pilot programme in the Port Moresby grid.
The Port Moresby Power Station is located in the Hiri West of Central Province, Papua New Guinea. The PNG Government's Electricity Industry Policy (EIP) of 2011 seeks to bring more private sector investment into the energy industry. In 2018 an Industry Group for Independent Power Producers in Papua New Guinea was established called 'IP3'.
PNG Power has worked with the Mineral Resources Authority (MRA) to install a 150kW rooftop solar PV system at the MRA office in Mining Haus, Konedobu, Port Moresby. One of them, the MRA, launched its 150kW rooftop solar PV system at MRA Haus in Port Moresby on Tuesday.
The move follows a request by PNG Power for IFC to build on its successful off-grid solar program, Lighting PNG, to help the power company's business customers access a pilot program. The aim is to initially allow about two percent of peak demand for electricity in Port Moresby to be generated from rooftop solar.
